Watson is delighted as Devils demolish Trinity

- By TOM BRAMWELL

SALFORD moved above Wakefield in the Betfred Super League table after a comprehensive 38-4 victory over Trinity at the AJ Bell Stadium delighting boss Ian Watson.

”From 1 to 17, everyone was outstanding,” said the Red Devils coach. “I’d say that’s probably one of our best performances in the last three years.

”We carried the game to them. It was a game at half-time, it was there for both teams. I just thought we out-enthused them and worked a lot harder than they wanted to work.”

Junior Sa’u opened the scoring after just 90 seconds and Rob Lui added a penalty before limping off with a suspected calf injury just before the break. Superb work from Niall Evalds earning a penalty for a professional foul - plus a sin bin for defender Reece Lyne - broke the game open for Salford.

Tries for Tyrone McCarthy, Ryan Lannon, George Griffin, Greg Johnson and a Jake Bibby double followed, with Wakefield offering only a Joe Arundel four-pointer in response.

”They seemed to run a lot harder than us and defensively they were very good as well,” admitted Trinity coach Chris Chester. “But we offered nothing.”

Matty Hadden is set to play when Hornets take on Whitehaven in the Challenge Cup fifth round tomorrow. Oldham are without on-loan Kieran Gill for the visit of Super League Hull KR. Leigh Centurions take on London Broncos.
