SANE TAKES YOUNG PLAYER PRIZE

LEROY Sane’s exceptional season with City has earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award - but Kevin de Bruyne was snubbed for the main award.

Blues players made up half of the shortlist for Young Player of the Year award, with Raheem Sterling, summer signing Ederson and exciting forward Sane making the cut.

The latter was announced as winner at the 45th PFA Awards last night at Grosvenor House in central London after a season in which the Germany international has been in scorching form.

Signed from Schalke two years ago for an initial £37m, the 22-year-old hit the ground running and was also shortlisted for last season’s Young Player of the Year award.

Sane has kicked on again under Guardiola, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

The other players on the shortlist were Tottenham, stars Harry Kane and Dele Alli, United’s Marcus Rashford and Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

De Bruyne missed out on the Player of the Year award with Liverpool’s Mo Salah winning the prize.

Sane and David Silva were the other City players on the six-man shortlist, with United goalkeeper David de Gea and free-scoring Kane completing the nominees.

City Women star Jill Scott also suffered disappointment after losing out in the Women’s Player of the Year to Chelsea Ladies striker Fran Kirby.

Kirby was one of five players from Chelsea to be shortlisted for the award, with Millie Bright, Ji So-yun, Maren Mjelde and Ramona Bachmann joining Scott.

City Women also had three players nominated for the Young Player of the year award – Ellie Roebuck, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh – but the prize went to Bristol City Women’s Lauren Hemp.
