Worrall’s thanks to fans after his horror smash

- SPEEDWAY By HAYLEY BROMLEY

INJURED Belle Vue captain Steve Worrall has thanked fans ‘from the bottom of my heart’ for their generous donations to his recovery fund as he prepares for the next phase of his treatment.

The 26-year-old was involved in a horror crash at Scunthorpe on April 6 after tangling with Redcar’s Jonas B Andersen, ploughing into the safety fence and breaking his tibia and fibula.

Several fundraising efforts sprang up in the immediate aftermath of the incident that, between them, have raised a substantial sum which will allow Worrall access to the best possible treatments.

Updating fans on Facebook, he said: “Thank you to everyone who has very kindly donated to my recovery fund via Just Giving, and to all the fans at Belle Vue and Scunthorpe for their generosity.

“I’m grateful and humbled by the support from the speedway community after the crash.

“Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all because without this these treatments aren’t possible.

“Since the surgery to plate my leg, I’ve visited a renowned sports therapist in Wolverhampton, Steve Williams, who is well known among riders and has an abundance of experience in the sport. We have now begun treatments to help step up my recovery.

“These will include ultrasound, magnetic field and laser treatments all designed to target and help heal the broken bones.

“With all this, and assistance from Paul Suggitt and Chris Neville, I have the best team of people around me.

“I’m still unsure as to when I will be getting back on the bike but with the help and support I’ve already received, the goals I’ve set for myself are now looking more realistic by the day.

“Thank you again to everybody for all your kind donations. I will keep you updated on my progress.”

The world champion, Jason Doyle, is in town on Monday when the Rentruck Aces hose the Somerset Rebels at the National Speedway Stadium, while the Cool Running Colts head south to Eastbourne on Saturday.

Tickets for next week’s Premiership home fixture are now available atbellevueaces. co and at the stadium box office on race night.
