Cheap deals that could tempt Guardiola

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

CITY will spend again this summer as Pep Guardiola aims to do what no side has done since 2009 and successfully defend the Premier League title.

But a squad that has broken all manner of records will not need too much adding to it, and as important as the marquee signings could be squad additions.

There has been talk Guardiola could try to persuade Andres Iniesta to make the Etihad his next destination, while West Brom skipper Jonny Evans would be available on the cheap should the Baggies be relegated. Here are a few others that could make City stop and consider...

ARJEN ROBBEN, 34 CITY have been frustrated in their bid to sign forwards for three transfer windows, and Robben would be a cheap way of adding cover. Guardiola worked with the winger at Bayern Munich, who has maintained a high level since the Catalan’s departure.

As a bonus, having seen Alexis Sanchez pinched by United from under their noses it would be a modicum of revenge to bring a player so central to Mourinho’s first stint at Chelsea. EMRE CAN, 24 THE Liverpool midfielder has shown his class this season and his future remains unresolved approaching the end of the season, despite talk of a move to Juventus.

City are interested in Napoli’s Jorginho, but Can would represent a budget option and would not need time to settle.

PEPE REINA, 35 WITH Barcelona, Napoli and Liverpool on his CV, the 35-year-old would be able to integrate immediately in the City squad.

It would require Claudio Bravo to move elsewhere, Reina to be happy with reduced game time and leave Angus Gunn no option but to sort a loan or deal elsewhere, but there is no denying the Spaniard would add invaluable experience to the squad and the mentality of a serial winner.
