New Corrie boss is right up Sally’s street

-

CORONATION Street star Sally Dynevor has spoken about the departure of producer Kate Oates and her “excitement” at working with the show’s new boss.

The Corrie favourite who plays Sally Metcalfe opened up on the ITV1 chat show Lorraine about Kate’s exit after two years at the helm.

Speaking to Lorraine from the set in Trafford, Sally praised Kate’s achievements at the soap and said they were sad to see her go.

But she said the cast looking forward to working with new producer Iain MacLeod, who joins Coronation Street from rival soap Emmerdale.

She said: “Yes, it’s always very sad to see somebody go but Kate Oates has done very well on the show and we wish her the best and we’re looking forward to working with Iain MacLeod in June. So it’s all changes as usual at Corrie. It’s all very exciting.”

Many viewers had lamented Corrie’s “darker” direction under Kate’s time in charge, complaining that the show needed deliver more laughs and less “doom and gloom”.

But other soap watchers applauded the bold direction she had led the show with ground-breaking stories, including the grooming of Bethany Platt and David Platt’s rape ordeal which saw a 1,700 per cent increase in calls to national charity helpline Male Survivor.

Sally also told Lorraine about an exciting new storyline coming up for her character, saying “it’s so exciting and it’s bubbling along. Sally does a very good deed but doesn’t turn out well for her.” And speaking about the departure of Helen Flanagan as her onscreen daughter, Rosie, to go on maternity leave, she revealed that she had shed tears as she filmed her last scenes. “I’ll miss her so much. She’s such a treasure,” she said. “We cried so much the other day, she’s such a sweetie.” Want to talk about Corrie with other fans?
