TP Group wins bumper £12.5m MoD contract

ENGINEERIN­G company TP Group has won a £12.5m contract with the Ministry of Defence for its Royal Navy submarines.

The group will produce combined oxygen generating systems which keep the crew alive during covert missions.

The systems would be manufactur­ed by TPG Engineerin­g, the group’s plant based in Dukinfield, and are expected to be fully delivered by 2026.

Historical­ly, the Dukinfield site has been manufactur­ing heat exchangers and other complex metal structures for global petrochemi­cal process plants.

In 2016 TPG Engineerin­g secured a contract with GE Oil & Gas within the nuclear sector.

More recently it has worked on defence projects which include work on the Lynx Wildcat for battlefiel­d utility, search and rescue and anti-surface warfare roles, as well as the Astute class submarine, which can stay underwater for up to 90 days at a time.

On the back of new contracts, the group has invested £1.5m on upgrading its Dukinfield plant with state of the art, precision engineerin­g capabiliti­es.

TPG Engineerin­g operate a 4000sqm integrated design and manufactur­ing centre with lift capacity up to 100 tonnes to support large and complex system manufactur­e.

It employs 60 people includes design, production, quality assurance and commercial, as well as specialist welding engineers and coded welders.
