Champion Hughie sets sights on fights for world titles

HUGHIE Fury has called out world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder after knocking out Sam Sexton to win the British heavyweight title.

Fury stopped Sexton in the fifth round of their bout at the Macron Stadium in Bolton to claim the Lonsdale belt.

It was Fury’s first fight since he lost to Joseph Parker for the WBO heavyweight title last September, and he hopes his victory over Sexton can lead him to another crack at world honours very soon.

“I’ve wanted to be a world champion since I was a kid. I don’t care about money, my one goal is to be world champion,” he said.

“When I get the world titles I’ll hold onto them for a long time. Even though I thought I won against Parker, that loss has made me hungrier, and I’m a vicious fighter now.

“I’m coming for whoever has the belts. They’ll try and duck me, but when I’m made mandatory challenger then they won’t be able to duck me.

“All of the credit goes to my dad. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for him. Straight after the Parker fight he told me to get back into the gym and work on what went wrong and we did.

“I dedicate this win to him. I know Sexton would give it his all because it’s his last chance and he came in shape, but I stuck to the game plan and all I needed was one shot. It was a boxing masterclass.”
