SERGIO Aguero has posted a positive injury update as he battles for fitness ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

The 29-year-old uploaded a series of videos to his personal Instagram account documenting his rehabilitation from knee surgery.

Aguero looked to be in good spirits as he went through a rigorous workout which included weight training as well as an exercise which saw him passing the ball to a coach while he was strapped to a harness.

The Argentina international has not played for the Blues since a brief cameo during Pep Guardiola’s side’s second-leg defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Aguero is City’s top scorer this season having scored 30 goals, however he has missed the last month of the campaign with a knee injury.

His fitness will be a huge boost to Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli as he prepares his side for the World Cup in Russia.

Aguero continues to be linked with a summer move away from the club, however speaking at a recent press conference Guardiola dismissed the suggestions.

“Sergio is going to stay until he decides ‘my time here is over,’” said Guardiola.

“I said it many times last season, this season, and today. I think it is not going to happen but in football you never know.”

Argentina have been drawn in Group D for this summer’s tournament in Russia and will face Iceland in their first group stage match on 16 June. They will also face Croatia on 21 June before facing Nigeria in the final group game on 26 June.

Meanwhile, Guardiola will not stand in the way of Mikel Arteta becoming the next Arsenal manager but says he will be “the happiest guy in the world” if he stays with City.

City assistant coach Arteta, a former Gunners player, is reported to be one of the prime candidates to take over at the Emirates Stadium following the end of Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign.

The 36-year-old began working with City after retiring from playing in 2016 and performed a key role in this season’s title success. Guardiola, speaking after champions City beat Southampton to become the first club to accumulate 100 Premier League points, said he “wants the best” for his friend and colleague Arteta.

“What we have done this season, Mikel his contribution was outstanding, amazing, we work together so good,” said City boss Guardiola. “If he stays I will be the happiest guy in the world and if he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you do not have to go. I want the best for my friends and he’s a friend of mine.

“If he decides to go, I will be so sad but I will understand his decision because it’s his career, his life, his family, and I am not the right guy to say you don’t have to do that.

“But hopefully he can stay and finish what we started together in the upcoming years.”
