THE ex-wife of Manchester ‘swing king’ Cole Page trashed his Mercedes with a golf club during a driveway row outside her home, a court heard.

Suzanne Page, 49, who has undergone an ‘acrimonious’ divorce with the well-known singer, was found guilty of criminal damage after a trial at Manchester magistrates’ court.

But she was acquitted of assaulting her former husband, whose real name is Trevor Page.

Ms Page told the court yesterday she was acting in self defence and was ‘scared’ of her former husband, who she said has ‘intimidated and harassed’ her since their split. He denied this.

He said that, during their argument, she told him: “I’m going to make sure I ruin you.”

The magistrates heard that they separated almost three years ago, after 22 years of marriage.

Giving evidence, Mr Page, who said he has been made bankrupt, stated he had received a phone call from their son, Mason, who wanted to pick up some clothes and golf clubs from his mother’s Rochdale home.

Mason, giving evidence for the prosecution, said he would stay at his father’s house that night as he was playing in a golf tournament the following day.

Mr Page said he parked on the drive at his ex-wife’s home, and reversed facing away from the house, so he wasn’t ‘provoking’ anyone. Mason then went to get his belongings, the court heard. Mr Page said he remained in the Mercedes Benz then heard a ‘loud smash.’ Ms Page left the house with a golf club and hit the back windscreen of the car, and then struck the passenger side window, smashing the glass on both occasions, the court heard. She then hit the body of the car with the club. Mr Page said he then got out of the car and ‘pleaded’ with her to stop. He claimed that Ms Page tried to attack him with the golf club, but that he was able to deflect the attack and that it then hit the back of his leg. She was found not guilty of Mr Page assault. “It was mindless, it was stupid, it was unprovoked. I didn’t do anything,” Mr Page told the court.

Mr Page said the pair shouted at each other, and he claimed his ex said ‘I’m going to make sure I ruin you.’

Police arrived and took statements.

In her interview with police, the court heard Ms Page said: “This man (Mr Page) has intimidated and harassed me for the past three years and I am scared of him.”

Taking to the witness stand, Ms Page alleged that her former husband had been ‘threatening’ and ‘bullying’ her.

Mr Page denied this when it was put to him by Ms Page’s solicitor.

She said on the day of the incident, on June 3 last year, her daughter, Taylor, had asked Mr Page to remove his car, but that he had refused so she called the police.

Suzanne Page accepted damaging her ex-husband’s car, but pleaded not guilty on the basis that she was acting in self defence.

After finding Ms Page guilty of criminal damage, the court ordered her to pay a fine of £180, compensation of £500 and costs of £310.

A restraining order was also imposed for two years preventing Ms Page, of Foot Wood Crescent, Rochdale, from contacting Mr Page.
