Becks pops in for a shift at factory

-

FOOTBALL icon David Beckham stunned workers in a Salford factory when he paid a surprise visit to meet staff. Manchester United legend David headed to the Private White V.C. clothing factory on Cottenham Lane on Friday on his first day as an ambassador for the British Fashion Council.

And he was keen to meet everyone in the factory - even the boss’s cute pet dog Brutus!

The company’s photographer captured some magical moments as David made his way around the factory, surprising staff who were hard at work creating clothing for the family-run firm.

That included one of the company’s longest serving workers Dot, who rushed to give Becks a hug when she saw him.

Company spokeswoman Zeina Dakak said: “We had kept his visit mostly a surprise, so when he walked through the building it was incredible to witness, I had goosebumps. When he met one worker who has been there 15 20 years Dot, she trembled with excitement. He shook everyone’s hand, he was very calm and poised and wanted to listen to all the stories about the business.”

Brutus the dog belongs to James Eden, the CEO of the company and the grandson of Private Jack White who fought in world war one and who the firm is named after. Private White had worked in the very same factory in 1918 after returning from the war.

Global style icon David was fascinated to learn about the process of the label.

Zeina added: “He wanted to see how all the at-home local manufacturing takes place and to find out about British talent.

“When he arrived James conducted the tour, and David visited key elements from the cutting of the cloth, shirt manufacturing, and button pressing.

“All the production is done in house.”

The business, which employs around 100 people, creates high end luxury menswear stocked in Selfridges and Harrods, as well as its own store in Mayfair and a factory store inside the base in Salford.
