Prize guy Pep named manager of the year

- By CHRIS OSTICK

PEP Guardiola scooped more silverware last night as he was named Manager of the Year and also Premier League Manager of the Year by the League Managers Association.

The Blues boss beat Jurgen Klopp, Sean Dyche, Nuno Espirito Santos, Neil Warnock and John Coleman to the Manager of the Year Award, which is named after former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The awards come after a season which saw the Blues become the first Premier League team to reach 100 points on their way to the title.

City also won the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

Meanwhile, the Blues boss has said he would be happy if City were knocked out of the Champions League again next season, but went on to win the Premier League.

Speaking on a special Sky Sports MNF, Guardiola said: “To be out of the Champions League and win the Premier League again, I’d sign it now.

“The Premier League is the most important.

“It gives you the consistency to arrive at the right moment, the Champions League is so complicated, the opponents are so good, all of them.

“Of course, we are going to try it, but I don’t think: ‘If we don’t win the Champions League in the next five years it will be a disaster!’ I don’t think so.

“Winning back-to-back titles hasn’t happened for a long time, which shows how hard it is.”

Guardiola may be looking for a new assistant next season, with it becoming increasingly likely Mikel Arteta will become the new Arsenal manager.

Reports suggest Arsenal players have been told that it is 90 per cent certain Arteta, who joined the Blues last season to work alongside Guardiola, will move to the Emirates.
