Red Rose’s Livingstone relishes the challenge in one-day cup
LIAM Livingstone believes taking on defending champions Nottinghamshire is a ‘great start’ for Lancashire as they begin their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign today.
Lightning have struggled in the competition in recent years, failing to get out of the group stages.
Last season they were just a point behind Nottinghamshire in the table, but failed the qualify for the knockout stages, while the Outlaws went on to win the trophy at Lord’s.
Now Lancashire face Nottinghamshire for the third time this season after the two County Championship clashes in a floodlit televised opener at Emirates Old Trafford.
And Livingstone, who has drafted Karl Brown into the squad after his impressive knock for the seconds last week, can’t wait to get started.
“Notts are a great one-day side, and it’s a great start for us,” he said.
“We don’t need to big it up. At Old Trafford we play some good white ball cricket. Hopefully we can get off to a winning start.
“We haven’t had the greatest run in it for the last couple of years, but I think we’ve got a great squad for all the white ball stuff, and I think we’re playing some very good cricket.
“It’s been quite tough at the start to the year for a few batters, so I’m sure the change to white ball will free a few people up.
“There should be some new faces in the side. There are lads playing well in the second team, so it’s exciting.”
