Lukaku faces final fitness test but Martial’s OK

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

UNITED will leave it as late as possible to decide whether Romelu Lukaku plays in today’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The striker has not featured since he suffered an ankle injury in the Premier League win over Arsenal on April 29 – and has spent the majority of the past few weeks rehabilitating at the Move to Cure centre in Antwerp, Belgium.

The 25-year-old returned to United’s Carrington training complex on Tuesday and has travelled to London with the rest of the first-team squad but is still a doubt to figure at Wembley.

Anthony Martial has recovered from a knee injury, though.

“Martial is fit and Lukaku we have to wait until the last moment,” Mourinho said. “I don’t want to lie to you and say he doesn’t play and then plays, or vice versa, so Lukaku we have to wait.”

United travelled to London on Wednesday afternoon and are spending three nights in a luxury hotel, a halfhour drive from the national stadium.

The club stayed for a similar amount of time down south ahead of the semifinal against Tottenham last month and used Fulham’s training facilities, but this week have spent time at Watford’s training base in St Albans.

Mourinho expressed his gratitude to Watford and explained why he was glad to assemble the squad for a lengthy period of time in the build-up to the cup final.

“We are not going to see each other for about two months,” Mourinho added. “After the game is goodbye, holiday for some and the dream and the motivation of the World Cup for some others.

“But after the game it is goodbye so to be here for three days is good. The weather is nice, the place is nice, thank you so much to Watford Football Club for letting us use their facilities for two training sessions.

“Everything is relaxed and calm and we enjoy to be together and, as I was saying, after the match is goodbye.”
