Riley signs off as McGhee signs up
JOE Riley has left United after nearly 15 years at the club.
The U23’s captain has signed a two-year contract at Bradford City as he looks to push on with his professional career.
The 21-year-old played a pivotal role for Ricky Sbragia’s side last season and capped another solid personal campaign with a memorable goal during a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in a reserves match.
Riley made two senior appearances for the club under Louis van Gaal but saw his progress stalled when he suffered a serious shoulder injury while out on loan with Sheffield United in 2017. Meanwhile, youngster Dion McGhee has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old from Oldham broke into United’s U18s towards the end of the season, making a total of 13 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side.
Primarily a midfielder, McGhee is also capable of playing in the No.10 role.
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” McGhee said.
“I’m really happy to get the contract signed. I’ve worked hard and listened to my coaches, listening to the advice and just enjoying what I do.
“My family and my coaches have helped me kick on and improved me as a person.
“This is just a confidence booster for next season.”
