Parklife bosses warn revellers about potentially-deadly ‘Punisher’ ecstasy

-

PARKLIFE bosses are warning revellers about a potentially-deadly batch of ‘Punisher’ ecstasy pills after two festival-goers died at the weekend.

Georgia Jones, 18, and Tommy Cowan, 20, collapsed at the Mutiny Festival in Portsmouth on Saturday.

The pair, who fell ill 20 minutes apart, died amid reports of a ‘high strength or bad batch’ of drugs at the event. A third person remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Their families have since reportedly confirmed their deaths to be drug related.

On Tuesday, Parklife shared a photo on social media of a triangular blue ecstasy pill known as ‘Punisher’.

Testing found the drug to contain 300mg of MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy pills, which is three to four times the amount usually found in a tablet - according to drugs awareness charity Loop.

Parklife organisers have now warned those heading to the festival in two weeks time to ‘act responsibly’ and ‘look after each other’. A post on the festival Facebook page read: “No doubt you have seen in the press, about the two very sad tragedies at a festival over the weekend.

“There is currently a VERY strong batch of pills being circulated, with a strength reading over 330mg.

“These tablets, along with others, can ultimately result in death.

“Please act responsibly and look after each other.”

Each year the two-day music festival at Heaton Park attracts tens of thousands of people. This year’s event will take place on June 9 and 10 with headliners including Liam Gallagher and N.E.R.D.

Hampshire Police, who are investigating the deaths at Mutiny Festival, say five people have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.
