TWO cars were daubed with white paint after being left parked on a street near Manchester Airport.

The words ‘NO PARKING’ were scrawled across the drivers’ side doors and panels over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Both had also had their tyres let down, police said.

The vandalised cars – which were both red – had been parked up on Lownorth Road in Wythenshawe, around 500 metres from the airport.

One of the cars was owned by someone visiting friends, according to residents.

One vehicle which was targeted, a red Ford, remained on the street and covered in graffiti yesterday afternoon.

In recent months, parking has been a contentious issue in residential areas around Manchester Airport.

Many people have complained that cars are being left on streets for days, or even weeks on end, while their owners go on holiday. GMP Wythenshawe tweeted photos of the cars and branded the behaviour ‘completely unacceptable,’ but did not make reference to airport parking specifically. The post read: “Cars parked on Lownorth Road have been damaged over the bank holiday weekend. “Having their tyres let down and ‘NO PARKING’ painted on the side of the vehicle. “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will take positive action against anyone caught causing damage.” The M.E.N. has reported regularly on problems with airport parking in recent weeks and months. In April, we reported how parking permits could be introduced on more streets in Wythenshawe to prevent holidaymakers and workers from dumping their cars. Town hall bosses said they would investigate a recent wave of complaints from the community about roads and streets being blocked.

Some residents were adamant that the vehicles were being left by staff who work at the airport and also people heading off on their holidays. It was claimed that some cars were being left for around two weeks.

Anyone with information about the latest vandalism of cars in Wythenshawe is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will take action GMP Wythenshawe
