Police officers face sentencing after corruption investigation
TWO police officers will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to offences as part of a drugs investigation.
Pc Kerry Reeve, 36, from Middleton, admitted two counts of encouraging the commission of offences when she appeared before a judge in Manchester yesterday.
She pleaded guilty to asking Pc Adam Jackson, 37, from Bacup, to obtain and supply her with a class A drug on two occasions.
Previously Jackson has also appeared in court.
He admitted encouraging or assisting in the commission of supplying a Class A drug, namely cocaine, and two counts of possession of a Class A drug, namely cocaine and methylamphetamine. They will both be sentenced on June 25.
It comes after an investigation by Greater Manchester Police’s AntiCorruption Unit.
During yesterday’s brief hearing at Manchester Crown Court, Reeve’s barrister Ricky Holland said his client is a serving police officer who is suspended.
Mr Holland asked that the sentencing of Reeve, of Barratt Gardens, Middleton, who has no previous convictions, be adjourned so a pre-sentence report can be drawn up. Judge Michael Leeming adjourned sentencing until next month.
Reeve was granted unconditional bail until sentencing.
When Jackson, of Tong Lane, Bacup, appeared in court in January to change his plea, his lawyer, Michael Lavery, said his client is a ‘serving police officer who had difficulties from cocaine’.
His case was also adjourned for a pre-sentence report, and Judge Leeming said this was ‘no indication’ as to the sentence he will receive.
It is expected that a special case hearing will be held by GMP after the sentencing of both defendants.
