CAR PLOUGHS INTO CROWD
FIVE SERIOUSLY INJURED AS POLICE HUNT FOR HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER:
SEVERAL people were left seriously injured last night after a car struck a crowd in Trafford Park.
Emergency crews were called to a collision near a roundabout on Europa Way shortly before 10pm.
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said five people were believed to be seriously injured. They were described as ‘major trauma’ patients.
Police said a car hit several pedestrians then drove away from the scene. Officers were still searching for the vehicle last night. Police do not believe at this stage the incident is terror related.
Several roads, including Europa Way and John Gilbert Way, were closed off as the emergency crews carried out their work.
An eyewitness said people were ‘flung everywhere’ when the car drove into them.
The man, who did not wish to be named, told the M.E.N: “It happened at about 9.50pm, give or take a couple of minutes. A car hit five or six people. People were flung everywhere. I saw a man in a bush afterwards and a lady with head injuries.” A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.49pm to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrians. We currently have five patients, all in a serious condition. We have four ambulances, an advanced paramedic, a senior clinician and three hazardous area response teams (HART) at the scene.” GMP said: “At 9.50pm this evening, Thursday 31 May, police were called to Europa Way, Trafford Park to reports that a car had collided with a number of pedestrians. “Emergency services are at the scene and there are currently five reported injuries. “The car failed to stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle. “There is no evidence to suggest that this is terrorism-related at this stage.”
