JORGIE Porter will make her stage debut in a new tour of Fame the Musical opening in Manchester this summer.

The former Hollyoaks actress and Dancing on Ice star will play Iris Kelly alongside soul singer Mica Paris as Miss Sherman and Any Dream Will Do runner-up Keith Jack as Nick Piazza.

Based on the 1980 film, the smash hit musical follows the lives of students at New York’s High School for the Performing Arts as they navigate the highs, lows, romances and heartbreaks of striving for stardom.

Jorgie, 30, who grew up in Salford, said: “I am so excited to be making my stage debut playing Iris Kelly in Fame.

“The musical is one of my favourite ever films and I can’t wait to open the show in Manchester, my home town.

“I’ve not had a chance to perform ballet for a long time, it’s what I originally trained in - so I’m looking forward to getting my ballet shoes on!”

Jorgie is best known for her role as Theresa McQueen in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 2008 to 2016.

She made it to the final of the seventh series of Dancing On Ice on ITV in 2012 and later returned for Dancing On Ice: Champion Of Champions.

Jorgie has also appeared on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, Lip Sync Battle and Celebrity First Dates in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

The new tour, by Selladoor Productions, marks the 30th anniversary of the musical, which was first adapted for the stage in 1988 in Miami.

It opens at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on July 20.

Tickets cost £15 and are on sale now from atgtickets.com/Manchester.
