Man is arrested after fatal street stabbing of dad

-

A MAN knifed to death in Salford has been named locally as Kevin Molyneux.

It’s understood Mr Molyneux, aged in his late 20s, became a dad just a few months ago.

A murder investigation was launched after the attack on Winster Avenue in Lower Kersal in the early hours of Saturday.

Mr Molyneux, known to friends as ‘Molly,’ was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Yesterday afternoon several bunches of flowers and cards paying tribute to Mr Molyneux, thought to be originally from Lower Broughton, had been laid near the scene.

One message read: “To my friend I love you cuz. Never will my life be the same. Love Derica.”

Friends have also been paying tribute to Mr Molyneux on social media. Dawn Martin wrote on Facebook: “I’ve known Molly from being a baby and grown up with my son who were best friends, he was always polite and respectful to me. No one deserves to die the way he did. God bless you Molly we loved you. RIP gone too soon.”

Julie Driver wrote: “Most of all thinking of his mum and dad and the rest of the family r.i.p Molly taken too soon.” Writing on Twitter, Pete J.B. said: “Gutted to find out one of my long childhood friends was killed last night. RIP ‘Molly’ you’ll be missed mate. Thanks for everything when we was growing up, basically living at yours on the weekend. Pure top memories. X.”

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Andy Butterworth, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We are treating this as a live murder investigation and any information that members of the public hold could prove crucial so if you think that you can help, then please contact us.”
