Pep fancies becoming international boss

- By LIAM CORLESS @ManCityMEN

PEP Guardiola has confirmed he wants to try his hand at international management.

The 47-year-old has conquered leagues in Spain, Germany and now England during his 10-year managerial career, but is yet to take charge of a national team.

Guardiola last month signed a contract extension to keep him at the Etihad until 2021 and he has now hinted at what his post-City future holds.

Speaking from Ghent, where Guardiola was attending the Kevin de Bruyne Cup on Saturday, the Catalan said: “I want to be at a World Cup or European Championship once again, yes.

“In the following years, I want to stay where I am. But if someone wants me afterwards... I’m still young.”

Alongside Guardiola at De Bruyne’s annual youth-team tournament was Herwig de Bruyne, Kevin’s father, and the City manager had some kind words for him.

“They (the De Bruyne family) can be proud of Kevin,” Guardiola added. “He is an extremely talented player. I am happy to be able to spend this period of my life with him.”

After penning a two-year extension in May, Guardiola suggested he could still walk away from City before his contract is up.

He said: “When I have the feeling that the relationship with the players is not good, I’m going to make a step back and then another guy is going to come and help the club, the team, the players to maintain this high level that we achieved in the recent past.”
