There must be sackings

-

THE rail disruption shows no sign of ending.

Andy Burnham is spot on in his complaints about Grayling and Northern. He seems to be the only person who is actually trying to help the poor and suffering public.

The lamentable excuses rolled out by Grayling, Northern and Network Rail will not wash.

These people knew full well over a year ago that this huge change in the timetables was coming up, yet they have been so inefficient in setting it up in the long time they have had to do it, that one wonders whether they have anyone on their staff who is capable.

If this had happened in the NHS, or an energy or water firm, for instance, there would be sackings.

Transport ministers have come and gone over time, and NONE of them have had a clue what they are doing. What on earth do they know about railways?

If we had the old pre-grouping companies back, they would run their businesses in the normal efficient way, bearing the responsibilities in a professional manner and treating their customers with respect. Neither nationalisation or franchising has worked. It is just political footballing and the railways are used by politicians for their own purposes.

It is high time the public were put first as in any other business.

And finally, the latest gaff from the Grayling office is the board-like hard seats in new trains on the GWR, which were specified by the government. Nobody is happy with sitting on the planks in the latest electric trains. Some people are even refusing to use them.

That just shows that the government is utterly out of kilter with the needs of the travelling public.

There is no doubt, Grayling and Northern should go, NOW! Brain Watmough, Manchester
