Jose’s got Dalot of faith in new boy Diogo

MOURINHO BELIEVES NEW £19M RIGHT-BACK DIOGO DALOT HAS BRIGHT FUTURE AT UNITED

- By ANTHONY JEPSON

JOSE Mourinho believes new United right-back Diogo Dalot has a ‘bright future ahead of him’.

The club confirmed the teenager has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford after impressing for Porto last season.

But, having only made a handful of appearances for the first team, some fans have been sceptical about the merits of the deal which is believed to have cost United in the region of £19m.

However, Mourinho’s explained why he thinks the Portugal youth international will be a success at Old Trafford.

“Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club,” he said.

“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs – physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.

“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.”

The 19-year-old is delighted to have made his move to the Premier League.

“Joining Manchester United is an unbelievable opportunity for me. I have grown up in Porto’s Academy and I am so thankful for everything they have done for me. But the chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn’t turn down,” he said.
