Reds confirm release of eight players from club

- By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

UNITED have confirmed they will release eight players – and are awaiting a response from six others on contract offers.

The club issued their annual released and retained list via the Premier League’s website and it confirms eight players will leave the club.

The first name on the list comes as no surprise. Michael Carrick has retired following a 12-year playing career at Old Trafford and is the only first-team player to be named on the list with U23 and academy players making up the rest.

As anticipated, 19-year-old goalkeeper Max Johnstone has been released as has U23 defender Joe Riley, who has already agreed a deal with Bradford City. Midfielder Devonte Redmond has also been released along with teenage keeper Theo Richardson, who only joined the club last year.

Academy goalkeeper Ilias MouthaSebtaoui has also been released along with midfielders Jake Kenyon and Charlie Scott.

The list also confirms six United players who have been offered new contracts and are yet to sign.

The most notable player on that list is Marouane Fellaini.

Dean Henderson, Indy Boonen, Zac Dearnley, Ethan Hamilton and Callum Whelan have all been offered new deals but have yet to sign.

It is also confirmed Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Sam Johnstone have all had one-year extensions activated.
