Teen girl injured in smash

A TEENAGE girl suffered a serious head injury after she was hit by a car.

The 14-year-old was taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital following the collision, on Lucas Road in Farnworth, near Bolton.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 4pm yesterday and closed off Highfield Road, at the junction of Lucas Road and Marsh Lane.

The driver stopped at the scene and no arrests were made, officers said.

Police said: “We were called at 3.50pm to reports of a collision involving a car and pedestrian.

“We were alerted to the scene by the ambulance service. The teenager has been taken to hospital. Her injuries do not appear to be lifethreat­ening.”

An ambulance spokeswoma­n said: “We have taken a 14-year-old girl to Manchester Children’s Hospital following a collision. She’s got injuries to her head, which are quite serious.”

TfGM tweeted: “Due to a police incident Highfield Road/ Marsh Lane, is closed in both directions.”
