DJ art has now been lost

-

A few weeks ago we hired a room in Manchester city centre complete with a DJ for a special birthday party for my daughter.

The DJ, who incidentally had more gear than you see on the bridge of the USS Enterprise, played something masquerading as music most of the night. Ok it’s what the kids like but aren’t they supposed to mix it up a bit for different age groups?

I had it all planned. At a certain point in the evening I was going to get the DJ to play a Frank Sinatra song that is very special to me and my daughter.

I went to see him and explained what I wanted. REPLY – I’ve got nothing that old mate. I said ‘can’t you download or stream it?’ NO!! Nobody said you wanted any old stuff. Well that was my surprise ruined, you couldn’t make it up!

So much for all the equipment. If I’d made that request to a DJ in the 60s, 70s or 80s they would have flicked through 3 big boxes of albums and found it no problem.

So the question is, has the art of a DJ progressed in the last 40 odd years? I would have to say no. R Davies, Stockport
