New York, New York so good they cancelled it twice!
HUNDREDS of passengers about to fly to New York from Manchester had their flight cancelled as they were about to board it.
Thomas Cook cancelled flight MT2848 from Manchester to JFK yesterday morning, scuppering holiday plans for 310 customers due to board the flight.
It’s understood both the outward flight and the scheduled return service to Manchester - MT2849 at 10pm on Thursday - were both scrapped ‘for technical reasons.’
Dominique, who did not want us to use her full name, was among a party of nine due to fly to New York for her aunt’s 50th birthday.
She said: “We were literally in the queue to check in and then they just tell us it’s cancelled. I’m not happy, I’ve taken time off work. Now I’m at an airport with no destination.”
She added: “We’re supposed to be doing a tour tomorrow which cost £70 each and we’ve got a meal booked in tomorrow night. To be told so last minute we’re not going anywhere shows such poor leadership skills. No apology, no proper explanation. Does it mean there’s no pilot, no plane? It just seems like none of what we were looking forward to is going to happen which is sad when you’re celebrating a birthday.”
A Thomas Cook spokeswoman said: “Our flight from Manchester to JFK this morning (MT2848) has been cancelled due to a technical fault.
“We are extremely sorry to our customers for the inconvenience and disappointment this will cause. All customers will be refunded in full and those who would like help with an alternative Thomas Cook Airlines flight can call our contact centre.
“Customers who independently book alternative flights with other airlines can contact our customer relations team to claim any difference.”
In addition to a refund, all customers are entitled to compensation.
Passengers were thought to have booked on other flights at Manchester and some were bussed down to Heathrow to take flights from there.
