UNITED SPECIAL Dean’s delighted at new Reds deal

- By RICHARD FAY By JAMES ROBSON

UNITED goalkeeper Dean Henderson has signed a new deal at the club.

The new contract will see the 21-year-old remain at Old Trafford until at least June 2020, with the option of a further year.

The England under-21 international was one of six players who had been offered a new deal at the club, but was yet to agree terms.

Henderson was out of contract at the end of the month and it was widely believed he would leave in search of regular first-team football.

The youngster attracted plenty of attention after a fantastic loan-spell at Shrewsbury last season, however he has taken the decision to commit his future to the club.

“I’m really delighted,” he told MUTV. “Coming off the back of last season and playing games at Shrewsbury and having a good season there, to return to the biggest club in the world and put pen-to-paper again is a great achievement for me and my family. It’s another dream come true.

”Obviously, there was a lot of interest after last season, when I’ve done myself well going out and playing but, look, United are the biggest club in the world and have been my club since day one so, of course, they are always first in my mind.” THERE was little concern among United’s hierarchy when Philippe Lamboley’s quotes broke on Wednesday night.

Anthony Martial’s agent put potential suitors on high alert by revealing his client was intent on leaving Old Trafford.

With a year to run on his contract and an option of a further 12 months, United remain in a strong position – hence the lack of panic.

They have long-maintained Martial remains a key figure in their plans and are confident he will realise the potential that convinced them to make him the most expensive teenager in history back in 2015.

Privately, Lamboley’s comments have been dismissed as a negotiating ploy in the middle of protracted contract talks. But Martial’s own unrest has deeper roots. The Frenchman has lost his way over the past season – been forced to watch on as he’s been overtaken at both club and international level.

Looking ahead to next season, it’s easy to see why he should feel anxious about his future.
