Centurions continue charge with stunning victory at Toulouse

- RUGBY LEAGUE By TOM BRAMWELL @MENSports

LEIGH continued their charge towards a spot in the Super 8 Qualifiers with a stunning 18-16 victory over Toulouse in the south of France.

Olympique, second in the Betfred Championship table, had only previously been beaten by league leaders Toronto in their home country, but had chosen to switch this match to Albi, some 70km from their Stade Ernest-Argeles home.

The home side opened the scoring after just two minutes, but Leigh hit back almost immediately through French international Kevin Larroyer and took a 14-10 lead into half-time thanks to tries from Jamie Acton and Ricky Bailey.

Toulouse hit the front when Con Mika crossed five minutes into the second period, but the nerveless Hall hit two perfect penalties to secure a vital two points for the Centurions.

ROCHDALE travelled to the capital to take on London Broncos, but found themselves on the wrong side of a heavy defeat that leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.

The Hornets shipped 12 tries on their way to a 68-0 loss at Ealing Trailfinders.

SWINTON hosted Halifax at Heywood Road, but they too could not get the win that would move them clear of the bottom places.

The Lions had just a Mike Butt try to show for their afternoon’s work, losing 48-4 to Richard Marshall’s high-flying Fax.

In League 1, a Danny Bridge hat-trick helped OLDHAM to a 44-12 victory over London Skolars at the Vestacare Stadium.

Dave Hewitt, Zack McComb, Matty Wilkinson, Danny Langtree and Jack Holmes also crossed as Scott Naylor’s side recorded an eighth successive league win.
