Man arrested after shots fired through newsagents’ window

A MAN has been arrested after gun shots were fired through the window of a newsagents in Stretford.

Police were called to the Local Choice convenienc­e store, on Chester Road, after the front window of the store was shot at.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which happened at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers recovered a bullet from the scene.

Later that evening, police stopped a silver Land Rover on Bury New Road in Salford.

Armed police surrounded the vehicle before a man was handcuffed and led into a waiting police van.

GMP confirmed a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He was being quizzed by officers last night.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker said: “We understand the concern that an incident such as this can cause, however, there is not believed to be any wider threat to the local community.

“We have increased reassuranc­e patrols and I would encourage local residents to approach officers if they have any worries or concerns.

“I would also like to appeal to any motorists that were in the area at the time with dash cash recordings to contact us.

“While we have arrested a man in relation to this incident, I would continue to encourage anyone with informatio­n to contact the police.”
