Chance to salute forces
PUBLIC CAN SHOW APPRECIATION FOR SERVING PERSONNEL AND VETERANS
THOUSANDS of people, of all ages, are set to show their appreciation and support for the Armed Forces and veterans with a host of fun activities in the city centre on Saturday, June 30.
Service personnel and their families from across the city have been invited to Manchester’s Armed Forces Day event for a chance to show their support for the Armed Forces community.

This year’s celebration – 100 years since the end of the First World War – will take place at St Peter’s Square with activities running from 11am to 4pm.
The Lancashire Artillery Band will start the celebrations followed by a march past at 11.30am, complete with a ceremonial firing of guns.
Visitors to the event will be able to immerse themselves in military taster activities and will be able to have a go at sitting in an RAF Jet Provost cockpit, wear real military kit, and try their hand at radio communications.
Information about military and veteran support services will be available and there will be a host of free familyfriendly activities taking place, including a climbing wall and face-painting.
There’s also the chance to enjoy some delicious food and drink.
Manchester Central Library - which features an extensive military archive – will be open throughout the event.
On production of an Armed Forces ID card or Veterans Badge and a photo ID, Armed Forces personnel and veterans can enjoy a 20 per cent discount in the Central Library cafe. Further special offers are available for Armed Forces personnel and veterans, with details on the council’s website.
