Progressives need to alter

-

THE last election wasn’t about hard Brexit against soft Brexit, it was about Labour lying to students and the Conservatives threatening to steal your house. I wondered at the time if it was the progressive establishment playing the long game. That will be answered in the coming months.

How did Dominic Grieve and the rest of the progressives vote in the leadership election? And no doubt they think that they should be allowed to choose the next, that they can stab in the back.

Why don’t all the progressives form their own party in the centre? Probably the same reason that they’re not all moving to Europe. It’s not about them being free to do what they want, it’s about preventing others doing what they disagree with.

If they bring down their own choice as leader, then the next one should be a proper Conservative, who should bring forward the most populist manifesto ever seen.

Every Conservative manifesto should start: We intend to scrap the supreme court (that’ll get the cuckoos out of the nest). The overseas aid budget should be moved to defence. The rebalancing of the House of Lords between conservative and progressive. An investigation into why Sky can charge subscriptions and run adverts when the BBC and Freeview have to do one or the other. And surprise, surprise we’re left with the dross on Freeview. The FA should be ordered to accept the lowest subscription. And an extra bank holiday, to celebrate Brexit.

Which of the following is the most progressive – BBC, C4 or Sky? And these are the people who moan about foreign regimes silencing opposition, they who have spent the past 40 years stuffing every organ with like-minded progressives (House of Lords, Commons speaker, select committees, mass media, church, advertising, teaching). Who makes up fake news about Russia deciding the outcome in America and on Brexit?

I can’t remember Clinton’s world tour with campaign manager in tow being such an affront to democracy. In the same way we didn’t hear a squeak when Obama was getting help from the tech firms.

Not only do progressives not accept the magnet, but that of the tide. It’s about time they found out that Jews don’t keep getting wiped out for being Jewish. Trying to replace the tide with a progressive tsunami is likely to get you killed.

How many people need to die to get king Canute to go with the flow. And how many, to get a progressive establishment to go with the ebb? John Swindell
