Police appeal for help after train guard slapped in face

- By ALEXANDRA RUCKI

POLICE have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a train guard was slapped across the face.

A man and a woman crossed the tracks between two platforms, at Romiley station in Stockport, to get on the train that was pulling in.

The driver was forced to do an emergency stop to avoid hitting them, police said.

When the doors opened, the guard stopped the pair from getting on board the train. Police said the man then became abusive and slapped the guard across the face.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection to the incident, which took place at around 8.40pm on May 23.

PC Charlene Pelzer said: “These people took a completely unnecessary risk to get a train, and one which ultimately prevented them from travelling.

“One of them then had the gall to assault the train guard, who was only doing his job. Our enquiries at the station have uncovered images of a man and a woman we’d like to speak to about this incident and I’d urge anyone who knows them to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text on 61016, quoting reference 662 of May 23.

Reports can also be made via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
