The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm after gun shots were fired through the window of the Local Choice newsagents, on Chester Road, in Stretford.

He has now been released on bail.

Officers called to the shop at around 5.30pm on Tuesday evening and recovered a bullet.

Later on the same evening officers swooped on a silver Land Rover, on Bury New Road, in the Higher Broughton area of Salford.

Footage from the scene showed armed police surrounding the vehicle, before a man was handcuffed and led into a waiting police van.

Det Chief Insp Paul Parker, of GMP’s Trafford Borough, said: “We understand the concern that an incident such as this can cause.

“However there is not believed to be any wider threat to the local community.

“We have increased reassurance patrols.

“And I would encourage local residents to approach officers if they have any worries or concerns.

“I would also like to appeal to any motorists that were in the area at the time with dash cash recordings to contact us.”
