Driver smashes van into takeaway
A VAN was repeatedly rammed into a chicken shop, cheered on by onlookers.
Video footage showed the flatbed truck reversing into the window of the takeaway in Stockport three times.
Shouts of ‘Go on, big ram’ and ‘Go on lad’ can be heard before the crowd cheers and whoops as the front windows of Chunky Peri Chicken on Castle Street, Edgeley, are smashed.
Across the road a masked man can be seen hitting the windows of another chicken shop, while two other men can also be seen filming the incident on their mobile phones.
As the truck pulls forward for the final time, it also rams into a grey Vauxhall Corsa as it drives past.
Police say the incident, which took place at 8.40pm on Sunday, appears to have been a ‘targeted attack’ following a confrontation on the street earlier that night.
Pc Ben Taylor, of GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation, but based on the intelligence we have gathered so far this looks to be a targeted attack following an earlier confrontation at 6.30pm with a group of men on Castle Street.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area at the time who might have mobile phone or dash-cam footage of the incident and the events leading up to it.”
Prior to the footage being taken police say the truck was also involved in a collision with a red Skoda, before two men got out and used hammers and bats to damage cars parked nearby.
The pair also damaged a shop on the street, while a third man began ramming the chicken shop, officers said.
All three men are then thought to have got back into the vehicle and fled along Moseley Street.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
