CITY Blues keeping an eye on young Socceroo...

- By JAMES ROBSON

IN a week when City were linked with a move for Aaron Mooy - it is another Australian who is of more interest to the Premier League champions.

Daniel Arzani is dubbed the next Harry Kewell in his homeland - and firmly embedded in the City Football Group at Melbourne City, the attacking midfielder’s development is being monitored closely at the Etihad.

The 19-year-old was Australia’s young player of the year - and so impressive have his performances been that Juventus are among the major clubs in Europe to have shown an interest.

Arzani’s next step is an intriguing one. Mooy represents a standout success of City’s global network of clubs, which spans England, America, Australia, Spain, Japan and Uruguay.

Signed from Melbourne in 2014 and immediately loaned out to Huddersfield, City sold him to Town for £8m a year later.

Arzani could follow a similar path or if he continues his development, even force his way into Pep Guardiola’s thinking.

It is all part of chief executive Ferran Soriano’s grand Barcelona model.

Soriano treats player development as a form of venture capital.

Mooy certainly paid back on his investment - but Arzani could prove even more valuable.

The teenager is seen as the golden boy of Australian football and it is a question of whether City move before a European rival.

“I do not know what happens,” said Arzani after his country’s elimination from the World Cup. “Now I will go straight to London and meet my agent and spend a few days there trying to clear everything up. “(There is) nothing concrete yet.” What is clear is that Arzani is no longer a secret. to globalise the

But countryman Mark Schwarzer has warned against rushing into a big move.

“I wouldn’t go to Man City or Juve or a big club like that because he won’t play,” the former goalkeeper said.

“Of course an outstanding talent like Arzani is going to want a dream move, but let’s be realistic, he’s played one full season in the A League and he’s only just starting out with the national team.

“Man City, for instance, have got some of the best players in the world fighting for his position.

“Sure, he might go there and get loaned out, but then you’re putting your destiny in the club’s hands.

“Right now he’s got the opportunity to shape his own destiny.”
