Tosin could snub Barca - if he plays

-

TOSIN Kehinde would be prepared to snub interest from Barcelona B if he was integrated into the first team set-up at United, according to sources close to the player.

The 20-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford expires tomorrow and both parties remain in talks about extending his seven-year stay at the club he considers ‘home’.

Kehinde has previously trained with United’s first team but faces an almighty challenge to break into that set-up on a permanent basis with Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all fighting it out for his favoured role on the left wing.

Although Jose Mourinho has hinted he will give a number of youngsters an opportunity to impress on this summer’s pre-season tour, given his stars’ World Cup commitments, Kehinde would be a surprise inclusion having never been named in a match day squad before.

The Nigerian is keen to sample men’s football for the first time in his career and a host of clubs are monitoring his situation, including Barcelona B, Fenerbahce, Anderlecht, Amiens, Red Bull Salzburg and SK Brann, but were wary of paying a compensation fee before today.

Barcelona’s interest stems from the academy’s policy of targeting players in the 18-20 age bracket who are entering the final stages of their contracts at other clubs, as was the case with Arsenal midfielder Marcus McGuane. Having been frustrated by a lack of opportunities at the Emirates, McGuane joined Barca in January and made his first-team debut just two months later.
