2018 REAL SCHOOLS GUIDE Elton is aiming high with hard work and dedication
NO SECRET TO SUCCESS, SAYS HEAD, IT’S DOWN TO ENTHUSIASTIC STUDENTS, TALENTED STAFF AND SUPPORT OF PARENTS
THE Elton High School continues to go from strength to strength on its road to excellence.
In recent years the school has moved smoothly into a new building and raised standards across all areas of academic life.
In 2017, The Elton moved from ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’ under Ofsted.
Inspectors praised the school’s ‘inspiring’ headteacher Jonathan Wilton for creating a culture of high expectations.
Pupils now make good progress in English, maths and science – and provision for disadvantaged pupils at the Walshaw Road school has improved.
Mr Wilton, who took over the school in September 2016, welcomed their second year at the top of the Real Schools Guide in Bury.
“The whole community here at Elton is delighted we have cemented our position as the best school in Bury for the second year in a row,” he said.
“As well as another year of excellent academic progress and exam results, we have continued to develop the broader experiences offered to our students, with highlights this year including several trips abroad, opportunities to meet and question high-profile guests such as Alastair Campbell and access to the highest level of competition for our debaters, scientists, mathematicians, writers and chefs.
“There is no mystery to our success – it is the product of hardworking and enthusiastic students, committed and talented staff and the strong support of parents and governors. We will continue to work together so our students are supported to become articulate and resilient individuals and to achieve their full potential academically.
“The Elton High School has recently moved into the first new secondary building to be built in Bury for many decades. It offers fantastic facilities which offer the best learning experience for every child.”
