Woman, 24, dies in hit-run

HUNT F0R DRIVER OF SILVER FORD MONDEO AFTER HIT-RUN HORROR

TRIBUTES have been paid to a hit-andrun victim killed on a pedestrian crossing.

Emma Galton, 24, from Sale, was walking across Chester Road in Hulme when she was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo.

She died at the scene despite the best efforts of the emergency services to save her.

The incident happened at 9.25pm on Thursday and a 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She remained in custody for questionin­g.

Police are continuing to hunt for the driver of the Mondeo which was found in the North Reddish area of Stockport.

Paying tribute to Emma, her parents said: “We are completely devastated to hear of our eldest daughter Emma’s untimely death. We know she is at peace now in heaven with the Lord Jesus.

“We would like to take this opportunit­y to express heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the investigat­ion and to everyone that helped our son to get back from his holiday so that he could be with us at this heart-breaking time.”

Sgt Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “Inquiries have been ongoing to trace the driver.

“We found a car matching the descriptio­n we had been given and have now confirmed it was the car that was involved in the collision.

“We have arrested a woman on suspicion of assisting an offender, she is now in police custody for questionin­g.

“I would like to directly appeal to the driver to come and talk to police, you know who you are, you know what happened, you should do the right thing now. We won’t stop until we find you.

“My thoughts continue to be with the woman’s family. I can’t imagine what her loved ones are going through.”
