Banner to remember Saffie on her birthday
A POIGNANT banner remembering Saffie Roussos was flown over her hometown on what would have been her 10th birthday.
The banner, reading ‘Happy b’day Saffie never forgotten,’ was attached to an aeroplane and flown over Blackpool, Manchester Arena and Saffie’s hometown Leyland on Wednesday, July 4.
Saffie was the youngest of the 22 people killed in the attack at Manchester Arena in May last year.
The family and friends of Eilidh MacLeod helped fund the banner through sales of charity ‘trolley beez’ t-shirts.
Eilidh, from the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, also died in the attack.
Many social media users spotted the plane and shared images paying tribute to Saffie.
A series of family events are also taking place this weekend across Leyland to mark her birthday.
Unfortunately a star-studded birthday party featuring dance group Diversity and Rowetta had to be cancelled for safety reasons.
Saffie’s family have since moved away from Leyland saying they found it too painful to stay there.
They have since set up a charity to help the families of people involved in terror attacks.
Andrew Roussos, Saffie’s father, is also trying to organise a benefit concert at the Lancashire Cricket Club this August to raise funds for the charity.
He is appealing for famous stars to sign up to the concert, which would take place on August 19.
