Mum’s horror after toddler shot in pram

A TODDLER screamed after he was shot with a pellet gun as his mum pushed him down the street.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the horrific incident which left the two-year-old boy injured and bleeding.

It took place on Broadstone Hall Road South, at the junction of St Mary’s Drive, in Reddish.

A mum was getting her son out of his pushchair when she heard two popping sounds at around 4.20pm on Monday, June 25.

The child began to scream and the mum noticed blood on his right hand, police said.

She assumed the boy’s hand had become trapped in the pram and quickly took him home, before deciding to take him to hospital.

When she arrived at the hospital she noticed a small metal pellet in the bottom of the pushchair.

Detectives now believe the boy was shot with a pellet gun and are appealing for anyone with informatio­n to come forward.

Pc Matthew Beaden, from GMP’s Stockport Division, said: “We are treating this incident extremely seriously and are following several lines of enquiry. We believe that someone in the local community knows who fired these shots, or has informatio­n that can lead us to the offender.” A GMP spokesman added: “At around 4.20pm on Monday, June 25, a woman was getting her two-yearold son out of his pushchair on Broadstone Hall Road South, at the junction with St Mary’s Drive, when she heard two popping sounds. Residents who live on Broadstone Hall Road South who said the area is ‘lovely and quiet’ were shocked to hear of the incident.

One neighbour, who has a young child, said: “It’s a lovely area, I’m really surprised this has happened.

“Nothing like this has ever happened round here before.”

Another woman said: “I am absolutely shocked. I’ve lived here 14 years and it’s a lovely neighbourh­ood.”
