Dalot ready to start work in Manchester

- By CIARAN KELLY

DIOGO Dalot is flying back to Manchester tomorrow as he looks to make a positive early impression at United.

The right-back is in Braga spending time with his parents, and caught up with his fellow Portugal under-19 internationals ahead of the squad jetting out to Finland for the European Championships.

Dalot will play no part in that tournament after suffering a knee injury towards the end of Porto’s titlewinning campaign last season.

The 19-year-old underwent a minor operation but will be available for United’s five-game tour of the States, with the squad due to fly out to Los Angeles a week tomorrow.

Dalot’s camp had initially been under the impression he would start kicking a ball in anger again on July 11. But, at the very least, the youngster will be back for tests and to meet his new colleagues at Carrington on Monday.

“United will set up an individual plan for him so everything goes smoothly with his rehab,” a source close to the player told M.E.N. Sport.

“It will be up to the club. It’s a process and they will lead it. The most important thing for both United and Diogo is he comes back at 100% and there’s no reason to hurry things up at this point.”

The youngster already ‘loves’ life in Manchester and enjoyed his first visit to Old Trafford as a United player to watch Soccer Aid last month.

Mourinho hailed Dalot as the ‘best full-back in Europe’ in his age group.
