France v England final ... you can put money on it!

- FRED DONE

UNUSUALLY for me, I’m beginning to hedge my bets over the World Cup.

From the off, I fancied France (18/1 pre-tournament) with Paul Pogba, Antoinne Griezmann and Kylian M’bappe all good enough to triumph in Russia.

But I have to admit England are doing a lot better than me – or the vast majority of patriotic Englishman – could ever have imagined.

And it’s no wonder they have been backed in from 18/1 to 4/1 to be crowned champions of the world for the first time since 1966.

So, I’m predicting it will be a France v England final in Moscow on July 15...and what a Cavaliers v Roundheads encounter that will be between a starspangled team and our tactically-adapt workaholics.

Kylian Mbappe is just the sort of player my team United should pull out all the stops to sign. And I’m not joking! For why shouldn’t the world’s richest club bring in the world’s best young prospect?

It would send a message of intent to champions City, who with that squad are quite capable of dominating domestically and possibly even in Europe for another five or even 10 years.

All this talk of Jose Mourinho attempting to hijack Ronaldo’s supposed £88m move from Real Madrid to Juventus leaves me cold.

He’s been a brilliant player, but the sad fact is, his best years are probably behind him and I just don’t think United should bring back their prodigal son.
