Lorry driver ‘may not know he hit woman’

-

A WOMAN was seriously injured after being struck by a HGV driver – who police believe may not have noticed he hit her.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was at a roundabout at the junction of Watergate Lane and Salford Road, in Over Hulton, when the truck struck her.

She was left suffering from serious leg and pelvis injuries following the incident, on Monday, July 9, just before 1pm.

The woman remains in hospital in a critical, but stable condition.

The HGV did not stop at the scene, but officers believe the driver may not have known he collided with a person.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may be able to help establish the circumstances behind the incident. Pc Phil Shaw, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have been trying to understand exactly what happened and our initial enquiries suggest that driver might not know he collided with a person, but this is something we need to establish.”

Anyone with information can call police on 0161 4743 1016.
