The 70-year-old man was walking towards a coach parked at Shudehill Interchange, in the city centre, on Monday, July 9.

The blue van Hool Astromega Coach was stationary at the time and waiting for passengers to board. Shortly before 5pm the pensioner came into contact with the coach and fell over while it remained parked at the interchange.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Police are working to establish the circumstances behind the incident and are appealing for witnesses.

Pc Dermot Murray, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has sadly died following this tragic incident and our thoughts remain with his family.

“We are working to establish the circumstances that led to the man colliding with the coach. It happened at a busy time of day and passengers were boarding the coach. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the man entering the bus station or witnessed this incident to get in touch.”
