CRAFT BREWERY BERATED FOR ‘SNOBBERY’ AFTER TWEET ASKING WHICH SUPERMARKET LAGER PEOPLE WOULD CHOOSE

SECONDS out - it’s round 344 of the craft beer snobs versus lager lads dust-up.

But in true 2018-style this argument isn’t being sorted out with a straightener round the back of a flatroofed pub - it’s being slugged out on Twitter.

Bosses at the Chorlton Brewing Company are the latest brave souls to wade into the long-running row.

The city centre craft brewery, which describes itself as ‘making contemporary beer inspired by Germanic brewing traditions’, tweeted a picture of the beer selection in the fridge in a Bargain Booze store and asked the question: “Given this beer choice, and if ‘nothing’ isn’t an option, what would you choose?” It certainly got people talking. More than 500 replies followed and the debate took in a wide-range of drink-related topics, such as the advancements in beer can technology, if green and clear glass bottles make the lager taste funny - and of course, craft beer ‘snobbery’.

Chris Plume replied: “This b******t snobbery is the absolute pits.

“Some of these lagers are genuinely good.”

Matthew Horton wrote: “To be honest @ChorltonBrew there are a few I’d choose to be honest. It isn’t a day for real ale is it?”

‘Mook’ tweeted: “I’d quite happily drink the vast majority of them. Beer/lager snobbery is tedious in the extreme.”

And Bren replied: “Think you’re being a tad snobbish tbh. Some do the job perfectly well. Not everyone wants vegan hemp-infused elderflower ale that’s eco friendly and the bottles turn into deep sea unicorns.

“Some of us just want a cold beer on a hot day that isn’t 4 quid a can.”

It all got a bit much and the brewery was forced to mute the thread..

“Can we stop talking about lagers now? 500 comments and everyone has already decided that Tyskie and Red Stripe are the best,” they tweeted.

“We need to get some work done now.”

The brewery eventually settled for a good old-fashioned four-pack of Stella. “In our opinion, Stella is definitely good enough,” they wrote.

“That’s why we bought a four pack of it.

“What’s a shame though is that every single one of those beers is owned by a multi-national conglomerate who are currently trying really hard to put the small breweries out of business.”
