Man charged with damaging police van after England win

A MAN has been charged after a police van was damaged during World Cup quarter final celebratio­ns in Manchester.

The emergency lighting on a marked police vehicle was broken while it was parked on Peter Street after England’s win against Sweden on Saturday.

Leon Allen, 23, of no fixed abode, has now been charged with criminal damage.

He has been bailed and will appear at Manchester Magistrate­s’ Court on Tuesday, August 7.

People across the country celebrated after England beat Sweden 2-0 in the quarter final in Moscow on Saturday afternoon.

The police vehicle was damaged at around 5.10pm.
