Worrall ready to battle the leaders on his return to Aces

- By HAYLEY BROMLEY

RETURNING Belle Vue Ace Steve Worrall is chomping at the bit for tonight’s Premiership clash with league leaders Somerset, having yet to make a league appearance with his parent club this year.

And the Rentruck Aces will need every ounce of firepower at their disposal as the battle at the top of the table intensifies.

Somerset will be looking to reigning world champion Jason Doyle, with a couple of new faces Aaron Summers and Nico Covatti also having joined the team.

But Worrall insists the Rentruck Aces aren’t feeling the pressure. He said: “Everyone’s in the same boat, but the onus is on Somerset because they’re top of the table and they’ll want to stay there.

“They like to ride our track and they’ll be wanting to come away with something from the meeting, so that in turn puts the spotlight on us to ensure our performance is much stronger than theirs.

“They’re not top for nothing and they have the best rider in the world as their captain. There’s a lot at stake for both sides so it’ll be an amazing meeting.”

On his return to the track after three months on the sidelines, Worrall said: “It’s just like riding a bike, you never forget! I had my first meeting on Friday and it took a few races to get into the groove.

“But once I’d settled down, I felt really good. My reactions haven’t faltered and as time went on I felt stronger and more comfortable so, hopefully, I can blow the last few cobwebs away at Belle Vue.”
