Missilou on mission after joining Oldham

- FOOTBALL By SHELDAN KEAY

NEW Oldham Athletic signing Christopher Missilou plans on impressing the Latics supporters and proving his transfer is justified after he joined the club on a one-year contract.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a deal at Boundary Park after a successful trial period, and also featured in the 2-0 pre-season victory over Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

Two second-half goals from Dan Gardner and trialist Giles Coke helped Oldham earn the win at the Tameside Stadium, going along with their 3-1 victory over Ashton United earlier in the week.

Missilou becomes Frankie Bunn’s latest signing, following the deals to bring in Johan Branger-Engone and Sam Graham. Jose Baxter also signed earlier this summer.

Missilou has had stints at French sides Auxerre, Brest, FC Montceau, Entente SSG and Le Puy Foot, and is looking forward to playing for Latics.

Missilou said: “I’m excited to put on the Oldham Athletic jersey and impress the fans.”

While Missilou has signed for Latics, one player has left after Aaron Holloway joined League One side Shrewsbury Town for an undisclosed fee.

Holloway signed for Oldham on a permanent deal in January 2017, and also had a loan spell at the club in 2016.

“Last year was a difficult season for me and the team obviously,” said Holloway. “We had a couple of strikers who were doing really well so I couldn’t complain too much.

“It was hard to argue with the fact they were playing.

“I just got on with it, came off the bench and did what I could for the team, but this season I definitely need to be playing games and getting myself in the starting 11.

“Last year wasn’t so good with Oldham getting relegated, but now is a new challenge.

“There are so many things I need to develop and improve on but I still think the main way I’m going to do that is by playing games and that’s why I’ve come to Shrewsbury.”

Shrewsbury manager John Askey added: “I don’t think he has fulfilled his potential yet. He needs a run of games and, hopefully, it will get his confidence going. I think he could be a very good player and can push on, he has got the ability to play higher.”
