Music megastars are creating a real buzz

MUSIC megastars The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran have added to the buzz around Manchester’s Bee in the City trail.

They are among a host of rock and pop stars who have helped to decorate one of the giant bee sculptures that will be popping up in the city when the art trail opens next week.

International names including Foo Fighters and Billy Joel have also joined homegrown acts like Noel and Liam Gallagher, Gary Barlow and Blossoms in signing the Bee Live in MCR sculpture, sponsored by SJM Concerts.

Ed Sheeran was the first to sign the bee between his recent Etihad Stadium shows, adding a cheeky message and bee doodle to the base.

The Rolling Stones added their signatures following their Old Trafford gig back in June. Frontman Mick Jagger wrote in gold on one of the bee’s eyes, whilst bandmates Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood all signed.

Country ingenue turned pop superstar Taylor Swift signed the bee’s other eye at her Etihad Stadium gig, while Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters bandmates also added their names following their show at the same venue soon after. Piano Man Billy Joel completed the US line-up with his signature.

Take That frontman Gary Barlow, Middleton’s own The Courteeners and Stockport’s Mercury nominees Blossoms also added their names following recent hometown shows.

Manchester icons Liam and Noel Gallagher have also both signed the bee - and Liam has also lent the Rock ‘n’ Roll logo he uses on stage to another of the sculptures, which he added to at Parklife.

Last week a host of Corrie stars gave their thumbs up to Hilda Ogden-inspired bee Hilda Bugden.

They will be among more than 100 huge honeybee sculptures dotted around Manchester for visitors to find from July 23 to September 23.

They will be auctioned off afterwards to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s We Love Manchester charity - and there’s expected to be plenty of bids for the star-spangled Bee Live in MCR bee.

Sally-Ann Wilkinson, director of Wild in Art, the creative force behind the trail, said: “SJM Concerts’ Bee Live in MCR is signed by some of the biggest names in the music industry. We’ve been keeping this bee under our hats for a while!

“Myself and the whole Bee in the City team are incredibly excited to finally share it with the world. I know that the public will seek this Bee out on the trail to discover the signatures of music legends; it’s a real treat for Manchester.
